Outreach Counselors

One way that TigerWell supports the well-being of students is by increasing access to mental health services outside of the traditional health care setting.

Note: Outreach counselors are providing all services virtually at this time.

Outreach Counselors Overview

TigerWell Outreach counselors Jess Joseph, Ph.D.Mike Gross, Psy.D., and Sue Kim, LSW are counselors affiliated with Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) but work from satellite offices where students live, work and socialize. They provide individual "drop-in" and scheduled counseling appointments, support groups, referrals, and skills-building workshops and trainings.

Jess Joseph, Ph.D. specializes in supporting students who hold (multiple) marginalized identities

Mike Gross, Psy.D. specializes in working with student-athletes

Sue Kim, LSW specializes in supporting international and graduate students

Any student is welcome to connect with any of the Outreach Counselors.

Through various collaborative projects and programs, the Outreach Counselors also aim to provide undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to increase their:

  • Social connectedness and sense of belonging

  • Communication and understanding across difference

  • Engagement, meaning, and purpose here at Princeton and beyond

  • Individual skills for contextualized self-care

Individual Counseling: Drop-in Hours

The Outreach Counselors provide individual counseling through drop-in hours, available to all undergraduate and graduate students.

Virtual drop-in hours provide an easy-to-access, confidential space to discuss whatever is on your mind; these sessions are a great opportunity to get some support as well as talk about your feelings and your academic and personal experiences.

No prior registration or appointments are required. Sessions will last approximately 30 minutes.

Individual Counseling: By Appointment

You can also schedule an individual counseling appointment with any of the Outreach Counselors.

Group Connection, Counseling, & Support

In collaboration with the entire CPS team, the TigerWell Outreach Counselors facilitate support & counseling groups and other community spaces, tailored to the needs of undergraduate and graduate students holding various diverse identities.

Workshops & Trainings

TigerWell Outreach also includes workshops and trainings for students, staff, and faculty. These outreach offerings provide opportunities for community members to develop skills to support their own and others’ well-being.

The Outreach Counselors, in collaboration with partners across campus, develop these programs as-needed, though we list a few examples here of past offerings:

  • “Redefining Your Career Expectations During the Time of COVID-19” workshop for students

  • “Supporting Difficult Conversations” training for Campus Life and ODOC staff, regarding trauma-informed approaches to student support

  • Support group for student athletes

  • Weekly virtual mindfulness meditations with the UHS Mind Body Health team
